In the age group from 3 to 6 years, sleep rhythms and duration become very similar to those of an adult:
up to the age of 5, 11 and a half hours of sleep are required, with a possible nap in the early afternoon;
from about 6 years of age, about 10 and a half hours of sleep are required (and there is no longer a child's request for an afternoon nap, in the majority of subjects).
Considering these physiological rest requirements, dear parents, organise yourself so that your child can go to sleep at a suitable time (preferably always the same time), i.e. allowing him or her to rest as many hours as necessary before waking up in the morning. Consider, therefore, that you have enough time in the morning for a relaxed awakening: allow a few extra minutes for when it may happen that your child asks to stay in bed for ‘five more minutes!’
Sleep habits can change over the years, and each family finds its own optimal solution to make this time as peaceful and relaxing as possible.
